When you arrive for your appointment, we will photograph your tattoo for reference and benchmark for future treatments. We will then evaluate your tattoo to determine the best course of laser treatment to accomplish your goals.
We will apply the numbing cream if you choose to numb before your session.
You wear goggles to protect your eyes from the laser during the tattoo removal process. The laser is applied to the entire area of the tattoo. The length of the procedure varies depending on the size and coloration of the tattoo. Some can be treated in just a few minutes, while others take 30 minutes or longer. Once the treatment is completed, soothing ointment is applied, and the area is covered with a protective dressing.
Tattoo removal is a process. You should experience significant fading but don't expect a complete tattoo removal after one session. We usually recommend between 1-3 treatments for lightening and 8-10 treatments for complete removal.
Your tattoo may darken, lighten, fade, or even appear to have no change immediately post-treatment. This is because, on average, your body takes 6-12 weeks to process the tattoo's pigment. Tattoo removal shatters tattoo ink and eliminates the tiny pigment particles through the body's lymphatic system, making treatment results not immediately visible.
There are some temporary side effects that you may expect from your skin after laser tattoo removal. After treatment, most people notice that their skin turns white and puffy in the treated area. This sign of healing will likely subside in a few hours. People may also experience: Redness, Tenderness, Swelling, Blistering, Scabs, Bruising, Hyperpigmentation, and Hypopigmentation.
These side effects are temporary and should subside entirely in a few weeks. After that, your skin should return to it's normal texture, with a reduced appearance of the unwanted tattoo.
You should wear clothing that's both comfortable and leaves easy access to the area that's being treated. No skinny jeans or leggings if you are having treatment on your legs. Loose cotton pants and shorts are perfect for tattoos on the legs. Loose cotton short-sleeved shirts or tank top are perfect tattoos above the waste. Wearing clothes that are too tight will inhibit the skin's ability to cool down properly. The residual heat that is in your skin after treatment may become trapped. That may lead to a heat reaction
Everybody has a different experience with tattoo removal. Does it hurt? It can. Many people describe it as similar to a rubber band or bacon pop. We will use cold and topical numbing cream on the area if needed. Our goal is to make this as comfortable as possible.
Tattoo removal works by eliminating pigment in the tattoo through the body’s lymphatic system. That process takes time. We wait 6-8 weeks between appointments.
Resist the temptation to make tattoo removal a do-it-yourself project. Your health and the appearance of your skin are at stake. Tattoo removal creams can fade and re-color the skin around the tattoo to make the artwork less visible.
Due to serious side effects, the FDA warns consumers about tattoo removal creams, ointments, and do-it-yourself tattoo removal kits. The FDA has approved no tattoo removal cream currently on the market. Here's what the FDA says about these products:
There's no evidence that any of these products can remove a tattoo.
The products often contain strong acids that can damage your skin, causing a rash, burn, or permanent scar. And you'll still have that unwanted tattoo.
